Hemp seeds contain an impressive array of vitamins and minerals and are especially rich in vitamin E, B vitamins (niacin, riboflavin, thiamine, vitamin B-6 and folate), magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, iron and zinc, and have antioxidant effects.
They are also rich in protein, fiber, and healthful fatty acids, including high levels of Omega-3s along and Omega-6s at a healthy ratio which can together help to reduce inflammation. The anti-inflammatory compounds in hemp seeds may help atopic dermatitis (AD) and acne, both of which can result from chronic inflammation. It has also been found that acne may be linked to a deficiency in Omega-3s, which hemp seeds have plenty of. The vitamin E can also help improve skin conditions. The Omega-3 fatty acids can also improve the health of the heart and reduce the risk of arrhythmias and heart disease. It’s no wonder why its hailed as a Superfood and even though it comes from the Cannabis sativa plant, they do not produce a mind-altering effect.
They are also pretty easy to incorporate into one’s diet, you can sprinkle whole or ground seeds onto of salads, blend in to shakes, or even bake into cookies or bread.
With all these great things, I thought I’ll try it out …
Just sprinkled it onto my breakfast, it couldn’t be so simpler. They didn’t really taste of much.. a bit nutty?

Come lunch time my stomach was killing me..what had I done.. My brain racked through everything I had ate..last night , this morning..nothing unusual . apart from hemp seeds. Wait, there a warning I read some where.. google (my friend) .. . ‘hemps seeds can cause mild diarrhea’ … MILD.. this wasn’t mild!.. ‘introduce into diet slowly , teaspoon at a time’.. a teaspoon! The recommended daily amount on the package was 2 bl**dy tablespoons. I had 2 tablespoons! At the same time I was texting back and forth trying to confirm a date that night with a guy I just met. You know, it was at the beginning when you don’t want to seem to keen but want to see the guy. ,. I’m normally useless at playing chilled, but having to weight up whether I was going to get a second wave of cramps or not definitely helped. Shall we, shall we not met tonight.. am I, am I not going to have to be rushing to the bathroom all night… romantic, unromantic… Luckily, the instance was short and although not so sweet, pains completely subsided an hour after the first bathroom trip. The joys of trying to being a health blogger. So yes, Note: introduce to your diet wisely i.e. slowly and not before a date night.
I haven’t quite managed to see the benefits of the hemps seeds, well the bag of hemps seeds has creeped to the back of my fridge as I haven’t managed to get over the trauma yet, so this just a warning not to ignore portion control no matter how you plan to incorporate it to see how your own body reacts. I currently have very bad eczema, so will get report back later if they have helped.
After all that, it didn’t even get me high ;p
